5Great protector for a great price
By wanda
I looked at several options for screen protectors before deciding on this brand.

I knew that I wanted the clear vs matte option, since I don't like the look of the matte finish. I like the shinier screen; it seems more vibrant, especially when viewing movies or tv shows on my kindle fire.

I found this very easy to apply- I have used screen protectors on many phones and other electronics, so I knew a lot of things to avoid :). I also read reviews of different brands and found more hints. I will share what worked for me; hopefully it will help someone.

1. Make certain the screen is completely clean. Use the enclosed cleaning cloth, but I also used a clean cotton cloth to wipe the screen. I read a tip that suggested using a piece of clear cello tape (long enough to cross the device) and touching the tape to the screen to lift dust particles that might still remain after wiping.

2. One reviewer mentioned the need to LIGHTLY sprinkle soapy water on the screen. I had done that for my phone and it does make a difference. I flicked a tiny bit of water in the center of my screen )maybe 6 or 7 drops in all) and when I began to press out the bubbles, the water slid to the edge, bringing any tiny particles along with it. Keep a cloth handy to dab the water that seeps out. Just be sure you don't use a lot of water, a few drops should be sufficient. If this makes you nervous, don't do it!

3. Use a credit/debit card instead of the flimsy cardboard that is included in the package. You should start at the center and work out to the edges.

4. Make sure you line up the protector in the right orientation, to avoid covering the light sensor in the corner. I didn't even know there was a sensor until I read it in another review.

5. You need to take your time and be careful to keep your fingers off of the adhesive side of the protector. Wherever you touch it, you will have lifting and will waste a protector.

I read a couple of reviews that stated this protector is hard to apply, but I found it pretty simple. If you remove the first layer of the cover, line up a long side of your fire, instead of trying just one corner (which is what most of the how-to videos show), it is easier to make certain the placement is correct. I used only one protector and have no bubbles at all. I don't know how long the protector will last, but since I have my fire in a case, the edges are covered so it should not lift up for quite awhile.

I notice no difference at all in screen responsiveness. My screen looks nice and the touchscreen functions perfectly.

I will definitely buy this brand in the future. The price was right, the shipping was great (ordered Saturday afternoon and received it Monday morning), and it was easy to apply. I know the kindle fire has a very scratch resistant screen, but I like the comfort of knowing I did my part to protect it.

5Better than expected!
By Jason D Crockett
I ordered this when there were no reviews on the product, which is something I do not normally do. From the picture of the product, I though maybe this would only cover most of the screen of my Kindle Fire. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it fits the entire screen perfectly. It was as easy to install as any screen protector (usually takes me two tries to get it perfect... good thing it was a two pack). I have not noticed any change in the response of the touch screen. Really great value for the price and with Free shipping, its the best screen protector for the Fire I have seen on Amazon!

5Finally, a very good film
By J.H.S.
This product is without a doubt, one of the BEST screen protectors I've ever used. And I've used everything from Steinheil to Power Support to Zagg. amFilm might have convinced me that I don't need to spend a fortune to get excellent results. I originally tried a different brand that costs more than twice the price of these protectors. Despite purchasing and trying that product twice, it failed miserably both times. I searched for another brand and was tempted to go with another expensive brand again until I saw pretty good reviews for the amFilm. Figuring I had nothing to lose at that price, I ordered the amFilm. Well, I can personally tell you that those 5-star ratings were well deserved. After preparing the device and installing this film in the exact same environment as the first (and more expensive) film, I ended up with no air bubbles, no raised edges (from improperly sized films), no defects (glue marks, scratches, or other visual artifacts), and it even has a perfectly cut hole for that little mysterious sensor thing in the upper left corner of the Kindle screen. No loss of touch sensitivity, no rainbow effect, no excess friction when swiping... just a crystal clear appearance with no loss of clarity. I never got results this perfect from the more expensive film that I tried first. I can't believe how perfect this protector fits and looks on the device. Not one single air bubble or speck of dust. Now, granted, you still have to have a relatively low-dust installation environment. I installed in the bathroom after running the shower on full hot for five minutes and steaming the dust out of the air. That's a trick I've used for years for other devices. I also cleaned the screen very well with a non-abrasive alcohol based cleaner and used a can of compressed air to blast any remaining dust particles off the screen just before applying film. Problem is, if a film isn't cut properly, (as was the case with the previous films I tried), you have to keep lifting and reapplying to get it to line up decently. Eventually, some dust particles are going to make their way back into the area and onto the screen during one of those reapplications. This film went on perfect on first try. I simply lined up the top edges and the sensor hole. The rest just glided down to a perfect fit on the Kindle. Success on one try. I added a picture of the Kindle with the film installed above. amFilm is THE best choice for your Kindle Fire. Take it from someone who has already researched and tried the more expensive options.

5Just As Described
By Just Wondering
I am a little surprised by the reviews. When I read them yesterday, I was ready to return my case when it arrived today.

I bought this because I wanted the lightest case possible that would provide protection. It is very light. As the product description explains, the case is polycarbonate (an impact and scratch resistant PLASTIC) which has been rubberized on the outside, and the cover is a soft fabric (rubberized with a felt layer on the inside. Yes, the elastic strap is glued, but so what? Glue is a good thing.

It feels "cheap" because it is very light (so light I thought the package was empty). According to my postage scale, it weighs a tad over 3 ozs. The stand does not stay in place unless it is weighted with, of all things, a Kindle Fire inserted into it. Then it works perfectly.

It is exactly as advertised: a very light, form-fitting case that offers good protection for the device with a simple display stand. Nothing fancy. Certainly doesn't have a designer name. But, it does what it is intended for and I am very happy with it. Obviously, I can't comment on durability, but the materials seem of high quality and the finish is excellent.

UPDATE 20 Nov 11:

It is time for an update because I have been using the case for almost a week of intensive enjoyment of the Kindle Fire. It is really an outstanding case! If you are looking for a good balance between weight and protection, I can't imagine there is a better choice. I will address myself to a few issues based on use:

1. The stand function is very simple. You insert the leading edge of the folded cover into a slot on the back. This has worked well for me, although I notice a number of reviewers have commented that it doesn't work well for them. I am not sure about the discrepancy, but it may be related to the hinge stiffness. I noticed that it is more stable as the hinge side (on which the device rests when in the stand position) softens with use. It is rather stiff at first. If you massage it a while it becomes more pliable and flattens, which improves stability. As for falling out of the slot, I haven't experienced that problem.

2. The quality of materials seems to be excellent. "Light" means "cheap" to some people. But this seems to be made of high quality polycarbonate and rubberized fabric. I haven't noticed any degradation of the materials. The case is very well constructed, including the elastic strap, which is heat sealed to the case body. I tried to pry it off, and it is really bonded well to the case body. BTW, the space between the case and the Fire is a great place to store a microfiber screen cleaning cloth, which you will need.

3. It is light and the Fire is heavy (especially if you are used to the Kindle e-reader). Any weight savings should be appreciated and this case delivers. Did I mention it is light?

I would buy this case without hesitation, but everyone has different needs. My objective was to find the lightest case possible that was made of high quality materials and which would provide sufficient protection in case I dropped it (I seem to drop things a lot). This case meets my needs as well as I could expect. At the new lower price of $29.95, I think it is well-priced for protecting a $200 investment.

UPDATE 29 Dec 11:

I carry my Fire everywhere, everyday in my coat pocket and recently returned from a two week trip to Europe and Africa, where it got bounced around a lot. The case is in great shape. There is some scratching of the outer hard case, but just minor. Most importantly, I have dropped my Fire many times and this case has provided absolutely rock-solid protection. I would have thought that the front cover might fray at the edges or the flexible hinge might become worn. But it is still just like new. The only difference is that the case has become a lot more stable in the viewing position as the cover has become more flexible on the hinge edge. I stand by my original review even more positively.

5Basic Tour of the Microshell Folio Cover by Marware
By T. Wanga
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2I14PLJQ3HQ4L Just a basic look at the case, so you know exactly what it is you're getting into.

Also, I didn't talk about the inside of the flap at all. It's felty, so it kind of doubles as a screen cleaner as well. I'm kind of a spaz about finger smudges, but they mysteriously go away due to the inside of the cover flap.

4I actually like this case!
By FreeSpirit
I am puzzled with all the bad reviews for this case. I was expecting something terrible to show up when I saw the reviews start popping up yesterday. The case is basically a plastic shell on the outside for the back, and a thin synthetic type material for the front, very similar (but thinner) to Apple's smartcover for iPad 2. The device fits inside the plastic shell perfectly. There is no room for it to move around at all.

The plastic part has a elastic band on the bank which can be used to insert your hand and hold the device when reading on it, or it can be brought to the front to securely close the front flap on the case. Overall it is a slim profile case that adds only marginal bulk to the device. The front flap has in inner velvet lining which comes in contact with the screen and keeps is safe.

Parts that could have been better - the front flap is slim, but a little too thin. I'm sure it will protect the device adequately, but it feels lacking in terms of protection. Not a big deal for me personally because I use the device only at home and am fairly good with keeping my devices safe. The second, the most important drawback of this case is that the stand just plain and simple - sucks! It is very flimsy, again because of the thin material on the flap. There is no way the device can be held on the stand when reading on the Kindle in my lap, for example. The only way the stand stays firm is if it's kept on a flat surface like a table or something. I think if they wanted to keep the material thin, that would be fine, except they should have added some weight in the middle part of the front panel that folds around - this part takes the weight of the stand, and if it was made slightly thicker, it would have worked very well.

Other than these two drawbacks, I like this case and I would recommend it if you're looking for a light-use case. For those who paid $39.99 in pre-orders, Amazon automatically put in a $10 gift card in my account for the price difference, I didn't even have to contact them. I am assuming everyone received the credit. If you didn't, you can probably contact them for assistance.

5A detailed review of the COVER, not the price. Read on...
By Joe
First, let's not turn this into a debate about the price. Haven't we had enough of that nonsense with the book reviews? Below, is a detailed review of the PRODUCT itself, with just a minor comment on the price/value.

DESIGN:
This is Amazon's best designed cover to date. The kindle easily and securely snaps in place - there are no hinges or annoying elastic corner bands and all buttons and the power port are fully accessible. In addition, they removed all types of straps and cords. These were a problem on previous models for a number of reasons: they broke or snapped after regular use, they made the cover uncomfortable to hold, they added extra weight/bulk, and they were very unattractive. The front cover is weighted to stay closed when the kindle lies flat (it won't pop up). To be clear, there is no strap, clasp or magnet to secure it in place (just like the front flap of a hardcover book). Kindle users like myself were looking for two things: sleekness/thin fit and a case that was aesthetically pleasing that didn't scream "kindle nerd," and they delivered. This case is slim, tight, and ultra sleek. After all, the main attribute of this new kindle is its small size and weight. No one wants a cover that will negate that.

QUALITY:
The cover is made of good quality leather and has a nice feel. The inside of the front cover (the part that touches the screen when closed) is a microfiber material designed to protect the screen and avoid scratches. The section that holds the kindle in place around the perimeter is hard rubber and grips it very well. This is not "cheap" or poorly made at all. I feel like I got my money's worth.

COMFORT:
It's extremely comfortable to hold, whether with one hand (the cover easily flips back and was designed to do so) or with two hands like a physical book. It easily fits in a coat pocket, briefcase, or purse. Again, people were fed up with all the straps and such so the fact that they got rid of them adds to the comfort factor. As for protection, it's good enough to prevent scratches and dings, but if it takes a big fall it probably won't help. Don't buy this case if you're looking for hardcore protection.

VALUE:
Just a brief comment that's not affecting the # of stars: Yes, this costs 50% of the device itself, but until Amazon decides to price the accessories as aggresively as the kindle, we're going to have to deal with it. Besides, if you're going to use it regularly you'll get your money's worth. I will say that at $59.99, the lighted cover is quite costly and you need to weigh the cost against how much you'll use it. I can't read in bed as I'll fall asleep in 5 minutes, so it's not an issue for me.

SUMMARY:
An excellent, extremely thin and form-fitting case that addresses all the problems with previous versions. Highly recommended.

4Well made and elegant, with small caveat
By Marron
I love the way the Kindle snaps into this case and fits perfectly--it is truly "Made for Kindle." I love that it adds so little weight, that my Verso clip-on light can clip right over it, that it opens fully so it can be held with the front folded fully back, that all the controls are flush with the edges of the cover.

But I do wish it had some sort of closure. I sewed some 1/8" elastic that I will use when I need it to positively stay shut. One star off for no closure (I'd remove only half a star if that were an option).

Now we come to the colors... Was some designer in the middle of a depression when the colors were chosen? Color taste is subjective, I know, but black, dead maroon, or jarring yellowish olive green? Not a cheerful tone in the bunch! How about a deep royal blue, forest green, or teal? Or even a rosy red? C'mon, Amazon!

5Outstanding Look, Feel and Workmanship
By D. Sauer
I'm not going to go into a detailed description of the product as this was well done by other reviewers. I wanted to take the time to leave a very positive review for this product because the quality of this cover really impressed me. I was reluctant to spend $40 for a cover, too, but I took my chances and I'm so glad I did. The device fits perfectly in the hard rubber interior of the cover and won't move at all (in addition to being protected all around the edges, with openings for the USB/Power button and the page forward/back buttons on both sides of the device). The leather and stitches are beautifully finished and this cover really has a classy look and a secure feel. I am happy to say that I got what I paid for, in a good way! The cover doesn't add much weight to the device and can easily be held open for reading with one hand. I recommend spending a few extra bucks for this really nice accessory. I got the green version, which is actually a bit darker than on the official product picture. The leather is olive green, not apple green. Finally, here is my original contribution: the cover closed WITH the device inside (Kindle 4, Wi-Fi, 6") and securely fitted weighs exactly 275 grams or 9.70 ounces, just in case you were wondering.
